Candide

The caustic irony of the author, omnipresent in this philosophical tale, becomes, with the point of the feather of the writer of combat which was Voltaire, a weapon frightening, suitable to cut in parts the theses of its ideological enemy, Leibnitz. The which been obstinated optimism of this last is seriously abused throughout this cruel history, where the skepticism of the philosopher of the lights shines of a singular glare. The ideas of Voltaire on the world and the human nature, show through in the very black picture which it paints, of a definitively corrupted humanity. All however started so well for the Candide young person, in Westphalia (German province), with the castle of the baron Thunder-ten-tronckh! Between its Pangloss tutor, savage in favour of the designs of Leibnitz, and its dear Cunégonde, the girl of the Master of the places, our hero éponyme ran happy days. But, surprised one day by the father of elected of his heart, whereas it embraced with ardour the latter, it was driven out of this small Eden. From there its life rocked, and, from now on without protection, it is lived obliged to rub with the others! In contact with dépravées creatures, and the wire of more atrocious mishaps all the ones than the others, the ingenuous one will lose little by little its illusions. Undergone voyages, bad meetings, dramatic events (like the earthquake of Lisbon, in 1755), all contributed to him dessiller the eyes. In a world without faith nor law governed by the chance, Candide assists, impotent, with dismaying spectacle of a very raw reality! At the end of improbable drive out-cross (during which it will find its former Pangloss mentor, like its beloved), the freed disciple will have forged his personal philosophy. With the follower of Leibnitz which will affect to continue to believe in the inanity of the evil (in spite of obstinate facts very...!), he will oppose his very new creed: simply let us work (let us cultivate our garden) without us to encumber the spirit of theories as inept as unproductive!
