Paradise Lost, Book Seven
(John Milton)

Publicidade
Milton now speaks of God?s creation of the world. Great parts have been taken from the Old Testament, but Milton has used poetic license and made some changes in its creation.

Initially, there is a prologue to the Heavenly Spirit, where Milton asks once more to be aided so that he can move above his mortal restrictions so that he can be inspired to write of things that no man still knows. This is with relevance to the creation of the world and the universe.

Adam asks Raphael to tell him about the creation of the Earth. Raphael recounts that once the rebel angels had fallen, God felt that the universe was unpopulated. To correct this, he would create the Earth, and then Man in his own image. This was important because God wished to unite Heaven and Earth through Man?s obedience to God. God did not perform these tasks himself though, his Son created Earth and hung it from Heaven.

Raphael?s account now follows the story of creation from the Old Testament- with the creation of life, light and ending with the creation of Man- all this spanning seven days. After all this creation there was a time for rest and celebration in Heaven by the angels, God and His Son.
