The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy
(Douglas Adams)

Publicidade
Douglas Adams was born in Camebridge on 11 March 1952, he was educated at Brentwood school in Essex and St John's college Camebridge where he gained a BA and later an MA in English literature. Adams said that the idea for 'Hitchhiker's' happened while he lay drunk in a field, which could have something to do with the books strong comedic and weirdly eccentric core, sometimes it seems like a spiral of DNA, ideas which are slightly twisted but interwoven with sychronisity and an original style. It is also quite a charming book and it weaves science fiction and fantastical weirdness together, to produce an enjoyable read which is mainly in the science fiction genre. It is masterfully sartirical and a type of inspired lunacy.

Adams very unlikely hero Arthur Dent, spends his time in a dressing gown going through space, after the Earth is destroyed by some less than friendly space creatures to make way for an intergalactic bypass. He is helped by his friend Ford Prefect who tries to get him through his problems and anxieties. They meet a range of weird beings. and a manic depressive robot, they find 'the hitchiker's guide' which helps explain a lot of things, and generally guides them out of most sticky situations which are often alien related. The book ends up with the answer to 'life the universe and everything' which is apparently, well I won't say here, you'll have to read it for yourself to find out!

The book is an enjoyable read if you are in need of a bit of escapism. It is quite fast paced, the characters are all well formed, and it has a certain english eccentric charm. Sometimes it can seem to be a little muddled, but then I think that is the idea and generally I did enjoy reading this book. I would reccommend it for what it is, and hope other people like reading it. Adams was very obviously a master of the Science Fiction genre and didn't take himself too seriously in life, which is always a good thing.
