Murder On The Orient Express
(Agatha Christie)

Publicidade
Each of Agatha Christie's stories have one thing in common. The character who commits the crime, usually murder, comes as a total surprise. Unlike other works of crime fiction, her works can be read again and again for the sheer pleasure of going through the nuances of the different clues she lets the perpetrators leave and the detectives decipher. Murder on The Orient Express is one of the most brilliant works of crime fiction and has also been made into a motion picture starring some of the greatest actors and actresses of all times, proving Agatha Christie's popularity as a crime fiction writer. Not for nothing has she been called the Queen of Crime. The story features the little Belgian detective Hercule Poirot with the egg-shaped head and enormous moustaches who uses his 'little gray cells' to solve mysteries. The setting is the Orient Express in which one of the passengers in the coach Poirot is travelling in is stabbed to death, whilst the train is steaming through snowbound country. Poirot is asked to solve the crime by his friend, one of the railway officials who also is travelling by the same train. The suspects are the rest of the passengers in that coach which include a Russian princess, her German maid, a Hungarian diplomat and his wife, an American lady, a Swedish lady, an Italian gentleman, an American detective, a retired British armyman, a British lady and also the victim's valet and his secretary, truly a varied lot of all nationalities and from all walks of life. As the story progresses Poirot establishes the link between the victim and the suspects and between the suspects themselves. Each page unfolds surprises as Poirot goes through seemingly baffling clues. How he establishes motives and solves the murder is told in this riveting tale which keeps the reader guessing till the end, something Agatha Christie is famous for.
