Abstract: It is indeed a well-written memoir by a young woman who returns to Oregon state (USA) to investigate the riddle of why an unknown young man ran over her tent, when she and her friend had parked at night on Jan 22, 1977, a Cline Falls State Park near Bend one. This is a strange case where two women were on their bike trip across the US and they were attacked while they were asleep in the Rest Area.. Their attacker had backed his truck off and proceeded to attack the woman with an axe but then suddenly he pulled back and fled away. The police could not catch him and the woman who survived this attacked continued to suffer physically and mentally for over 15 years. Finally she decided that to get her peace of mind she should personally go to Oregon and uncover the mystery.
The author has highlighted great courage and determination of the ailing woman in search of truth. During this effort, two sincere people dee Dee and Bob kounses, co-founder of crime victim united, helped her a lot.
The author has highlighted the snags in criminal justice where cruelty toward woman takes too long to be dealt with. The culprit often terrorized women but could not be caught by the police. However, it was Bob?s effort, which reopened the case in 1996 to change the case from limitation for attempted murder to a non-restricted time period and have the murderer convicted.
A good thriller, which will keep you riveted as the story keep unfolding.
