Publicidade
Khaled Hosseini's novel ?The Kite Runner? is a story about one boy's ultimate betrayal and redemption. It follows the tale of Amir from his childhood trials to his adult life. Amir begins as a young boy who lacks the courage to stand up for himself and others, his low self-esteem fueled by his father's uncaring manner. When local bullies, Assef and his friends, attack and rape Hassan, Amir's forever loyal servant and friend, at the annual kite fighting tournament, Amir is unable to speak up and help Hassan. Instead he commits the ultimate sin and runs away. Unable to stand the sight of Hassan in the weeks that follow, for they serve as a ever constant reminder of his guilt, Amir frames Hassan for theft, for he knows one of them must leave. Once the war strikes in Afghanistan, Amir and his father must leave and begin a new life in America. There, Amir becomes a published author and marries his wife, Soraya. However, when an old friend calls from his homeland, Amir's world is rocked once more, and he returns to his past to meet Kahim Khan who tells him he must go to Kabul to save Hassan's son, Sohrab from a life of poverty in an orphanage. When Amir returns to Kabul, he must face his past demons, and fight the fight he had run away from so many years ago. Finally finding the courage within himself, Amir fights a loosing battle against Assef, until Sohrab steps in with his slingshot and does what his father couldn't do as a child. Amir goes through one battle after another until he manges to bring Sohrab back to America, where finally, Amir finds the atonement he had been seeking for his past sins, and a new life for Sohrab.
