The Story Of Tristan And Iseult
(Joseph Bedier)

Publicidade
The story of Tristan and Iseult is a Medieval tale originating from France. At the beginning the piece was passed on orally, and in his turn each story teller changed it a little or added a bit. Finally it was put in written form, again in many diverse versions. The tale survived until now due to Joseph Bedier who collected the most popular versions of this story. He compiled them and transformed the text into prose, translating it in contemporary language. The book is talking about the love born between Iseult (the queen, Mark?s wife) and Tristan (the beloved King?s nephew) after both of them have drunk a poisoned wine. About the desperation and sadness of lovers who cannot live together and about joyful moments they spend together. The story of Tristan and Iseult is an outstanding knight romance, showing the ideal, beautiful and unattainable love, as dreamt by all lovers; saturated with medieval customs and culture. I recommend reading this book full of cruelty and violence, but also sincerity and an uncommon love.
