Hayden underlines the difficulty there of making the difference between maternal instinct and professionalism. Unceasingly, the young professeure fights against its bad conscience as soon as it is shown a little too protective and human against Sheila, and this, with depend on the professionalism. The Girl of the Tiger has this of positive: Torey Hayden is a healthy person, and, consequently, its book is free from social voyeurism. Hayden does not embellish anything, but it does not sink either in the compassion. Like beaucuop of other works, it is to better read the book before seeing film.
