In her struggle to survive, Anna becomes a scavenger and spends her days in search of objects from the past to sell for food and shelter. In the world where only death and destruction provide some means of survival, Anna who at one time is such a frightened person, in the end proves that the basic principle of love and care still finds the first place for the life to exist. The most remarkable characteristic of the heroine in ?In The Country of Last Things? is her continual ability to love and her trust in it.
