The Perfume

Jean-Baptiste Grenouille was born at July 17th 1738 behind a fish's tent in Paris. His mother wanted to leave him behind in the fish's garbage, but his shriek saved his life en his mother was decapitated a few weeks later for leaving her child to his fate. He was brought up by a wet nurse, but she despised him. He meets then madame Gaillard, an insensible, rough woman who knows no love and can give no affection. Grenouille is born with a supersensible olfaction which allows him to distinguish smells same with kilometers of distance and he can also describes its compositions. He had himself had no body smell at all, reason why he is rejected by his surrounding. One evening he smelt a very fine smell that made him believe life had no meaning without having it in his possession. To his surprise, it figured out that it was the smell of 13th year girl. He strangled her and sniffed her from hair till toe and then was it clear for him that his destiny was to be a Sheppard of the smells, the biggest perfumer from all the times. To learn new techniques, he departed to the south, to the city Grasse. On the way he got so obsessed on the people' smell that he got into a cave and stayed there for seven years. When he arrived at Grasse after all those seven years he got touched, like in Paris, by a young girl' smell. he wanted to possess this smell as well, but for it he had to kill first 24 other girls. He was sentenced by those murders, but on the day of the execution of his sentence he was caught by the perfume again. This smell caused a sexual excitation in the public that helped him to escape. He ran away to Paris where his perfume finally costs his life at cemetery.
