Raincare Riding and maintaining your scooter/bike in the rain is ot an easytask. Visibility is low,so the road ahead can be an arduous one. This is not all. Since there is a lot of water on the road, at times tractin is almost nil. This is compounded by the fact that especially waater logging occurs and one needs to tread verycarefully as potholes etc.get covered by waer and then there is no respite fromdamaging your 2 wheelers. A few simple tips however, could came in handyto save your vechnicle. Get the feel of the road and adjust your speed accordingly. This is vey im portant because it is imperative that you ar least see a vehicle in front of oyou. Do nt exceed 40- 50kph under and follow the taillights of the vechicle ahead of you. Youmight need to brake quickly,so always be prepared. Remember, that on two wheels you could skid easily. Typres:Be sure tires have plenty of tread and a re roperly inflated. This is veryimportant, as l;ess tread meansmore slippage on road and a tendency to skid. If you hae bald tyres, this could be a major problem as even a small stone, invisible through the water might puncture yr typr. Be careful of acquaplaning-a situatin where the tyre rides on a fil of water. Brakes:When slowing or stopping, gently apply the brakes. This gives the personbehind youtime to react and adjust himself accordingly. For you,it is also a test to see that the Brakes are oerating peoperly and that water has not reduced their effectiveness. This is especially true when you have just driven out of a waterlogged area. The brakes could be having a lot of water onthem still and pumping tem slightly would rid them of any excess water. Lights:Driving with lights on is a good idea as it increases your isibility to others. When negotiating a water logged area,if your exhaust goes below the water levelmaintain accelerator pressure. As long as you keep yur hand on the gas, water will stay out, because oif once water enters the exhaust your engine ould need expensive overhauling and that hours! Rubber Undercoat: It is a good idea to get the underside of your hike?s body treated with a rubber underoat to keep out te water as this will not let water settle in hard to reach areas and alsokeep out rust and other oxidiation, thereby preventing metal faigue. Putting a rubber undercoat also acts as a sealant, and protects vital paerformane parts.
