Charlie And The Chocolate Factory
(Roald Dahl)

Publicidade
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a wonderful, fanciful book written by Roald Dahl in 1964. The book tells the story of Charlie, a poor boy who lives with his parents and both sets of grandparents in a small shack. His grandfather tells him the story of an eccentric candy maker, Willy Wonka, who runs a mysterious chocolate factory with mysterious workers. Much to everyone's surprise, Wonka announces that he will put golden tickets in five Wonka Bars, and the five lucky finders will get a tour of his factory. Of course, Charlie gets the very last ticket, and takes his Grandpa Joe with him, to meet the mysterious Mr. Wonka. Charlie seems to be the only normal child in the group of tourists. The other four children are badly behaved, each having a particular "bad" trait, including excessive television watching and gluttony. All of these children are eventually disposed of in a way that matches with their traits. For example, the obese child drinks chocolate from a spot he's been told not to and gets sucked through a pipe into the fudge room. After each disposal, the Oompa Loompas, strange little people who work for Wonka, sing about the fate of the children. They are later revealed to be alive, though hopefully scared straight. Charlie in the end proves to be the only "good" child, and, after a few challenges, Wonka reveals to him that he will inherit the Wonka factory. The book is full of wonderful descriptions of this factory with chocolate rivers and candy grass. It has been beloved for over 40 years, and has been adapted into movies. There is a sequel to the book, called Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator.
