The Old Man And The Sea
This is a sad story of fisherman from the Gulf Stream whose virtue is his patience and perseverance. He is old but still strong, wore tattered clothes and lives in a bare shack near the sea with his skiff. He has a young boy who comes fishing with him and the boy has come to love his company. After eighty four days without catching a fish , the boys parents ordered him to go with another fisherman and they have good catches there. Sometimes he does not have fresh bait and just have some salted leftover ones. The old guy was so poor without any catch that now most times he goes hungry and the boy would buy him a beer and bring him food given by others. The boy helped him carry his gear in or out whenever he has the time. This time he has fresh sardines from the boy and went out as far out than most of the other fishermen. He caught tuna for bait and ate some too for sustenance and has seen birds circling around and finally he was able to hook a big marlin. The fish gave him a hard time and after two days he was finally able to gaff the fish but it was bigger than his skiff so he tied the marlin alongside the skiff and towed it to shore. Sharks smelled it and started eating it and he killed the first one but other sharks left only the head and frame. So he left his skiff on the beach with the skeleton of the fish for all the others to see and struggled home to rest and sleep. The boy found him in such a sorry state with his wounded hands from the line and cried for his loss.
