Anne Frank- Diary Of A Young Girl
(Otto Frank; Mirjan Pressler)

Publicidade
This is the diary of a teenage Jewish girl from June 12, 1944 until August 1, 1944. Her family fled their home in July 12, 1942 to avoid being herded by the Nazis into concentration camps. They stayed there until August 4, 1944 when someone dobbed their secret hideout and they were arrested and suffered the same fate as most Jews. Only Otto Frank, her father survived to have this diary published. They went in hiding at her father's office building in a secret annex. The secret door was concealed by a bookshelf. They also used the attic and loft for storage and hanging the washing as well as for secretly viewing the surrounding area when it is safe. Spice and condiments were her father's business and with the help of people who worked at the office namely Mr. Kugler, Mr Kleiman, Mien and Bep Voskujl. People who worked in the warehouse did not know they were hiding there. Initially there were only her father Otto, Mother Edith, sister Margot and her there. On august 14, 1942, they were joined by the Van Pels family Hermann, Auguste and son Peter. She anonymously called them Van Daan. Life in the annex was very difficult when you are living in cramped quarters and have to refrain from making noise when there are visitors in the office and the workers next building were around. They cannot go to the toilet and bath when there were strangers around as it was located below in the office. Miep and Bep did the shopping for them and they also buy ration coupons from the black market. On November 14, 1942, they were joined by Mr. Dussel to share Anne's room. Now there were eight of them hiding there. They carried on living at the annex and the young ones did correspondence courses. Reading matter and news was brought in by their helpers. Each birthday and other special days were celebrated with presents from among them and also from their helpers. The two staff ate lunch with them. Food was naturally short and they were hungry sometimes but it is better than the concentration camps. There were times when they could not all get along with the Van Daans and Mr. Dussel. Anne does not like her mother much too. When there was a burglary they were nearly discovered and they could not use the toilet and alternately used a basket with all the stink around them as they could not move around and the girls slept on the floor. It was horrifying for Anne as well as Mrs. Van Daan when there were air raids from the Allies. Sometime in early 1944. Anne developed a relationship with Peter Van Daan. He was closer to her than to sister Margot. Peter was attracted to her because she is not shy unlike him. She confided to her father of their relationship and she was not ordered to cut it off but to temper it a little bit. After sometime she began to understand a bit the difficult personality of Mrs Van Daan. Her mother was a bit jealous because she talks to her more often than her. On June 6, 1944 they heard on the radio that D Day has begun. The news has elated them although this time their freedom was still uncertain. It was maybe around this time when they were a bit careless and someone has learned of their hideout. It was in August 1, 1944 when Anne has entered the last notes of her diary, three days before their discovery and subsequent arrest.
