Utopia
(More, Thomas)

Publicidade
Write your abstract here. Utopia refers to an imaginary civilisation, a perfect city or world, an ideal society. More's Utopia is based on Plato's republic, a community where the beauties of society reign; equality and general pacifist attitude. In this idea, the evils of society are removed, such as poverty and hunger. It has few laws and rarely sends its citizens to war, it encourages all religions, save atheism, since the people believe a man must fear some god. There is a variety of Utopias, religious utopia is based on individual religious ideals. Jewish, Christian and Islamic ideas of Heaven could be described as forms of utopianism, where someone may exist in a state of bliss or enlightenment, free from worry or sin. Concepts of heaven and those of Utopia are very similar although Utopias are generally more earthly, being ideal societies instead of a state of existence, such as the heaven idea. Humans could possibly achieve Utopia, but not really a garden of Eden. Some people believe that scientific advancement could lead to utopian standards in living, for example the absence of death and suffering. But many cultures myths of Utopia don?t revolve around advancement but living at one with nature, a distant past when humankind lived in a primitive and simple state, but still one of fulfilment and happiness, with no reason for war or oppression. Many writers and explorers felt that Utopia existed on earth and was to be found in a physical place, like Columbus, feeling he had discovered Eden when he came across America. But I don't really think Utopia is to be found but a perfect society to be achieved, and now for the scariest thought of all, what happens when you find utopia, a pefect society, what do you do next?
