Teo Became A Millionaire With Only Five Dollars
Teobald Rousse asked Otakar Batlicka to come on the bow that he needed to talk to him urgently.
As Otakar was steering the following 2 hours he kept wondering what Teobald Rousse could possibly want from him. Teo entered on board of Barbara in Lisbon, a happy and hard-working man, what?s more even well educated. He can recite the Greek and Roman history forwards and backward and his mental math is so quick. But no matter how hard he tries he is still far from making it to a real sailor.
As soon as Otakar left the steering wheel he was hurrying on bow.
Teo was sitting on a twisted rope and was looking in the distance.
He was glad Otakar has come. He has chosen the most desolate nook of Barbara for their meeting.
Teo wanted to tell his friend, that as soon as they reach San Francisco ? he is going to disappear.
As a matter of fact he accepted work on Barbara only to be able to get to America.
He had an amazing idea and asked Otakar to come with him, promising him to become rich.
Otakar laughed at him because in order to start any business you need a basic operational capital; and Teobald, all in all only has a five Dollar banknote, hidden in his shoe polish box.
During the next crossing, the two friends were not on talking terms. Most probably Teo felt hurt. Otakar, on the other hand was too proud to intrude.
Finally Barbara anchored in San Francisco. Straight away the first day Rousse asked permission for a walk. Dressed in his best clothes he is marching in the crowd of his friends on the ship?s bridge.
When he reached mainland he turned around, put two fingers to the peak of his hat ? Otakar never saw Teobald again.
Otakar served on several more ships and after about 5 years he met a second officer of Barbara in Rio de Janeiro. We are remembering the friends we both used to know.
?Man! That Teobald Roussee, that was a sensation! When the captain found out about it and after he read about him with his own eyes, they had to destroy the newspapers straight away so they would not lose half of their crew.
Teobald became one of the richest men of California. According to the news in the papers he only started with 5 dollars. He deposited 4 into a bank account and for 1 dollar he apparently let a poster to be hung out in a shop window.
