Football Shorts
(Vin Shanley)

Publicidade
With the world cup 2006 upon us perhaps this is the ideal time to tell you about a humourous book of anecdotes and compilations about the glorious game. Shanley will bring a smile to the face of every sports fan out there. He also tells us how Gordon Bennett came into common use in the English language. It is a very enjoyable read an easy read . It relates to us all aspects of the game ranging from managers to chairmen to the players themselves not forgetting the referees and my own personal favourite the commentators and the pundits.
Who will ever forget when Bill Shankley the former Liverpool manager stated that football was not just a matter of life or death it is more than that.
We hear of Kevin Keegan a man with a passion for the game who when in management was outfoxed by that wiley old Glaswegian Sir Alex Ferguson the current supremo at Manchester United. There is also a mention for the pundits like Ron Atkinson and David Pleat who have an unquestioned knowledge and love of the game who undoubtedly make the spectacle all the more enjoyable by their observations. It also gives us many famous slip ups like when Ron Atkinson said he never gives an opinion on referees and that he is not going to break the habit of a lifetime for that pratt .
Any footballing book would not be complete if it did not have something in it about George Best the greatest ever the play the game in my humble opinion or for that matter when it comes to giving an opinion on football the one and only Brian Clough is never too far from the door when he was considering buying Neill Webb back from Manchester United he said that hes not actually a very good player but he has a lovley smile which brightens up Monday mornings.
So just do not take my word on it go out and get yourself a copy and do it soon even if it is just to fill in the time until the next wonderful world cup match comes on . I am sure you will smile when the simplest of Freudian slip occurs by the magnificent John Motson or some other commentator /pundit who have almost become household names. None of us are perfect and this book is a perfect foil ,we sympathise , enjoy and just cannot wait for the next footbal season or whatever and with it more gaffs which are not in the script.
